What is it and who can benefit?
Autism, or autism spectrum disorder (ASD) refers to a broad range of conditions characterized by challenges with social communication skills and repetitive or restricted behaviors or thinking.
This evaluation aids in identifying and diagnosing autism spectrum disorder (ASD). We offer both a screening and a complete evaluation for ASD concerns.
Signs, symptoms and characteristics of autism that may warrant an evaluation include:
o difficulty with communication and social interactions
o difficulty developing, maintaining, and understanding relationships
o repetitive movements, play or speech patterns
o insistence on sameness and need for routine
o intense and highly focused interests
o under- or over-sensitivity to sensory stimulation
Autism often co-occurs with ADHD, anxiety and depression, gastrointestinal disorders and seizure and sleep disorders.

What is the process?
ASD evaluations include a comprehensive written report and a feedback session with the parent or guardian to discuss results and recommendations. Guidance on navigating the special education process in the public school system can also be offered.
Both the screening and the evaluation begin with an in-depth intake interview to discuss concerns along with background and developmental history. This is a 60 minute session, typically held virtually with only the parent(s).
Both the screening and the full evaluation also include standardized rating scales which measure the degree of behaviors in various settings.
Additionally, the full evaluation includes individual standardized testing of intellectual abilities along with evaluation of ASD behaviors utilizing a standardized measure.
